That’s why it’s critical for caregivers to ask for help and take a break when they need it. ​ Respite care provides short-term relief for primary caregivers, giving them time to rest, travel, or spend time with other family and friends. The care may last anywhere from a few hours to several weeks at a time. Respite care can take place at home, in a health care facility, or at an adult day care center. Personal Care Personal care includes the duties of in-depth, hands-on support. Caregivers help with the activities of daily living, including assistance with bathing, feeding, dressing, grooming, and incontinence care. Personal home care typically provides a variety of non-medical services, including: basic housekeeping, assistance with activities of daily living (ADL's), like bathing, toileting, dressing and grooming. Preparing and or delivering meals, companionship, errands or appointment escorts and more. Live-In Care A live-in caregiver is just what it sounds like. This is someone who lives with a patient, providing care 24 hours a day for either several days or weeks at a time or daily on an indefinite basis. ​ With typical live-in caregiving, a main caregiver works between three and five days each week.
